Washington, DC - Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer traveled to California this week to campaign for Democratic incumbents in key 2018 races.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Hoyer joined Rep. Tony Cardenas (CA-29) for fundraisers in Los Angeles. Rep. Cardenas was first elected to Congress in 2012 and is a former member of the Los Angeles City Council and the California State Assembly.
Hoyer traveled to Santa Monica on Wednesday afternoon to raise money for Rep. Julia Brownley (CA-26) at two separate events. A former member of the California State Assembly and former President of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board, Rep. Brownley was elected to Congress in 2012, and her race has been designated under the DCCC's Frontline program.
On Thursday morning, Hoyer participated in a fundraiser for newly elected Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) in Los Angeles. Rep. Gomez won a special election in June to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Xavier Becerra, who resigned to serve as California's Attorney General. Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Gomez served as the Majority Whip in the California State Assembly.
Hoyer traveled in support of ninety-three challengers and incumbents last election cycle, raising or contributing $8.6 million for Democrats running in key races across the country.
